A side-type agitator is a fluid mixing device in which the agitator (shaft, paddle) extends from the side wall of the vessel into the mixing chamber. It is widely used in industries such as petrochemicals, water treatment, metallurgy, and food fermentation. It is particularly well-suited for mixing low- to medium-viscosity fluids, as well as for heat and mass transfer and suspension operations in large vertical storage tanks and reactors. Its core design feature is that the axis of the agitator shaft forms a specific angle (typically 10°-30°) with the vessel sidewall. This creates a composite flow field along the radial and axial directions of the vessel, avoiding the "dead corner" problem associated with traditional overhead agitators in large vessels.
